Today, we mourn the passing of a remarkable servant of God — Pope Francis. His journey among us has ended, but his legacy of humility, compassion, and unwavering faith will continue to echo through the ages.
Pope Francis was a true bridge builder. He opened doors of dialogue between the Roman Catholic Church and the Eastern Orthodox Churches, reaching across centuries of division with a heart that longed for unity. He extended hands of friendship to leaders of other faiths, world leaders, and those marginalized by society — always with a spirit of peace, respect, and sincere love.
Many tried to label him: some applauded him as progressive; others criticized him for the same reason. But in truth, Pope Francis was neither. He was a humble and faithful servant who led the flock of Christ by embodying the Gospel with both tenderness and strength. He sought to gather lost sheep, not with judgment or condemnation, but with mercy, patience, and an open heart — just as the Good Shepherd taught us.
He also reflected the spirit of St. Ignatius of Antioch, the early Church Father who emphasized unity, obedience to the bishop, and the preservation of true faith. Pope Francis, through his words and actions, tirelessly called the Church to remain rooted in Christ and united in love — even amidst a fractured and confused world.
In an era marked by moral uncertainties and the rise of ideologies that blur right and wrong, Pope Francis remained a beacon:
Firm in truth, but gentle in approach.
Clear in doctrine, yet merciful toward the wounded.
A leader who defended the faith, not as a weapon, but as a healing balm.
Yes, his papacy faced controversies and criticisms. But beyond every headline, Pope Francis showed the world that to lead like Christ is to bend low, to wash feet, to love without measure, and to point all people — saint and sinner alike — back to the Father’s embrace.
Today, we thank God for giving us a shepherd who mirrored Christ’s love so beautifully. His life calls us to live not for ourselves, but for others. Not to close our hearts, but to open them wide to the transformative power of the Gospel.
